# Day Hour Minute Format To Total Hours

Aug 28, 2007
We have a system called Datamart that outputs in excel formatted file.

The output of a duration is : 22.00:8.00:25.00 ( day hour minutes )

I want to be able to add, subtract, average, calculate the 10 fastest/slowests durations from a list of durations in this same format. I have googled and tried custom formatting but excel does not like this format. when I try to sum a range and divide by the number excel gives me 0.

I need creating a formula that will tell me the total number of employee hours worked during a certain hour (6:00 AM) for a particular department. Some employees clock in at 6:00 AM, some clock in at 6:30. Here is the current formula I'm using which only tells me the amount of employees in the department not how many hours worked . I have three employees that clock in at 6:00AM and one at 6:30AM, the total I'm looking for is 3.5 but my formula gives me the result of 4.

C5:C1446 is a list of departments

T1503 is the 6:00 AM

D5:D1446 are the Clock In times

K5:K1446 are the Clock Out Times

=SUMPRODUCT(--($C$5:$C$1446="Shipping"),($T$1503>=$D$5:$D$1446)*($T$1503

1) The output of an excel duration is : 22.00:8.00:25.00 ( day:hour:minutes ) - excel cannot average and work with this number format

2) resolution - =(LEFT(L2,4))+MID(L2, FIND(":",L2)+1,4)/24+MID(L2, FIND(":",L2,7)+1,4)/1440 as an array and Custom Format the cell as [h]:mm - works perfectly.

Q: to be conistent, the initial reporting is dd:hh:mm and then I convert to hh:mm so that excel can process the data. How can I convert from hh:mm to dd:hh:mm so that the excel report can be consistent in presenting the data to senior management?

example attached.

We have a report application and developers that are giving us a real challenge.

1) if you have a cell formatted with:

DD:HH:MM and have a 4 digit numeric value for each section:

47.00:0.00:59.00

you can use the following formula to convert to hours minutes that excel can handle:

=(LEFT(P18,4))+MID(P18, FIND(":",P18)+1,4)/24+MID(P18, FIND(":",P18,7)+1,4)/1440

2) if you have a cell formatted with:

DD:HH:MM and have a 2 digit numeric value for each section:

47:00:59

you can use the following formula to convert to hours minutes that excel can handle:

=(LEFT(P4,2))+MID(P4, FIND(":",P4)+1,2)/24+MID(P4, FIND(":",P4,5)+1,2)/1440

Problem:

our developers have created a new report that now has a variable format

D:H:M

2:6:33

4:3:3

0:22:5

0:2:2

22:0:1..................

Here is a traditional Indian time calculation

(1 day) 24 Hr = 60 N

1 N = 60 V = 24 Minutes

How to formulate this in excel 2003.

If A1= HH (hour), B1=mm (minutes) - Inputs

A2 should show NN : B2 should show VV - Result

And Viceversa.

If A1= NN (hour), B1=VV (minutes) - Inputs

A2 should show hh : B2 should show mm - Result

hh - hours, mm - minutes, NN - Nazhigai, VV - Vinadi - all are numbers

I am trying to set up a time sheet for staff where it calculates hours worked in and outside of core hours. I can do a calculation to work out what they have worked in and out of core hours providing that part of their time starts of finishes in core times. The problem I am having is when some one works only outside core hours. Our core hours are 6am to 6pm. The problem is when they work from say 7pm to 1am. This is irregular work paid as overtime not shift work.

I have a program that outputs a total amount of time that a service was provided. This time is reported in hours minutes [Example: 01.08 (hh.mm)]. I need a formula that will "round" to the closest .25 based on a 7 minute window on either side. Here how it would need to work....

0 - 7 Minutes = .00 or 1.00 - 1.07 = 1.00

8 - 22 Minutes = .25 or 1.08 - 1.22 = 1.25

23 - 37 Minutes = .50 or 1.23 - 1.37 = 1.50

28 - 52 Minutes = .75 or 1.28 - 1.52 = 1.75

53 - 7 Minutes = .00 or 1.53 - 2.07 = 2.00

I am building a spreadsheet to manage 15 folks wages to be able to know how much money has been spent.

We routinely work 40 hour weeks and have a sheet that automatically multiplies hour work by person (Say A1) times their hourly rate (say A2)

My question is how could I right it a formula that allows me to type in their hour work (A1) if it's greater than 40 hours?

Say A1 is 40, A2 =$20.00, A3 =(A1*A2) $800.00

If the A1 is 43 what would I put into A3 that would automatically multiply the additional hours over 40 times 1.5 A2

create a Macro that runs when system clock changes minute and then at every change of minute of system clock.

For example, if I give the execute command to start the macro at 09:14:45 (HH:MM:SS), then its first run should be only at 09:15:00, then next run at 09:16:00 so on...

I already have a Macro that runs every minute from initial run time, using

Code:

Application.OnTime Now + TimeValue("00:01:00"), "MyMacro"

but it seems to be unreliable, because in case I open another sheet that takes lets say 20 seconds to open, the next macro run is delayed by 20 seconds.

Example:

As we key in 0815, it would automatically convert to 08:00.

As we key in 1345, it would automatically convert to 13:45.

What is the code we could use to put in the code of the sheet?

I have a ton of time in the above format (hh:mm.*) that needs to be converted to a 12 hour format (2:15 PM). I'm not wonderful with formulas, but if it's explained "simplistic" enough, I can probably get it. Please help - I've googled this to death every possible way. I can go in an manually change 19:37.5 to 7:37 pm - but it will take me FOREVER!

I want to add the numbers of hours in a 4 week period. I have used the following formula (from this site) to total according to month but I don't seem to be able to adapt it to change it to only add hours between 2 dates or for the 28 day period. I thought maybe I should be using a SUMIF but I can't get that happening either.

I have attached a simple file( I think!!)

=SUMPRODUCT((TEXT($B$3:$B$61,"mm/yy")="07/07")*($C$3:$D$61))

I want to keep a running total of hours.

I know what to do when I add them- if the number is positive then a payment is due, if its 0 then the employer is "Up to Date" But what if they pay me more than they owe? I owe them hours, how can I have excel know that there is a surplus and to deduct the future hours worked from the surplus until i've paid it off?

I have my problem in an excel spreadsheet but I don't know how to upload so you can download it for reference.

I have pivot tables where I need to look through a series of names and sum the hours and dollars charged by that person. When I try to do a pivot I can get it to read

column 1 Column 2

John Doe $4000

Mary Smith $ 500

But if I try to add the hour columns it breaks it out by the week the hours was charged

column 1 Column 2 Column 3

John Doe $2000 4

2000 4

Mary Smith $ 250 5

250 5

I want it to just give me one dollar total and one hour total per employee.

I have a time calculated and I want to know, Out of that time how much is above or below 8 hours.

Ex. 1: 7:30 - 8 = [result] "-:30" mins

Ex. 2: 11:00 - 8 = [result] "3:00" hours

OR

How can I convert 7:30 into 7.5 [decimal] and then subtract that from "8" to get the difference?

I know this is an easy one, I have done it many times before. It's crunch time and I am drawing a blank.
